Manufacturer: Mauser Model: P08
This is an excellent example of 1940 dated WWII Mauser "42" code Mauser P.08 Luger Semi-automatic pistol with the scarce Nazi Navy marked back strap. The back strap is marked "N/4890", indicating that it was issued to the North Sea Navy fleet. This specific pistol has the all blued metal finish with checkered walnut grips. The chamber area is dated "1940" with the wartime "42"code marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the double "eagle/655" Waffenamt proofs next to the single eagle firing proof, which is also present on the right side of the barrel. The underside of the barrel is also marked with the bore diameter "8,83", along with the serial number of the pistol. Safety and extractor are correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. It is currently fitted with a later type three, all blued, milled magazine with an aluminum base that is stamped with "N4890/5639/g/+", which indicates that both the original Mauser factory serial number and the North Sea navy property mark are matching to the pistol and the back strap. The grips are nicely checkered walnut, that are marked with only a single "Eagle/655" Waffenamt proof on the back side of each grip panel. These Nazi Navy issue Lugers are very rare as they didn't require the large numbers of Lugers like the German Army did.

Excellent with 95% of the original blue, with minor edge and high spot blue loss with some thinning/oxidation on the rear grip strap. The checkered walnut grips are also excellent with a couple of very minor handling marks with nice sharp checkering on both sides. Mechanically excellent. As noted it has matching serial numbers to include the original navy marked magazine.
