Scarce and Desirable Engraved Parker Brothers CHE Grade Side by Side 20 Gauge Hammerless Shotgun with Extra Barrel and Case

This shotgun was manufactured in 1899. It is 1 of only 1,673 CHE grade hammerless shotguns manufactured. The size 0 frame and the trigger plate have a large amount of tight English scroll engraving with some areas of flower and thistle engraving. The 30 inch Titanic steel barrels are marked with the weight 3 pounds 6 ounces, are stamped "1" on the forearm lug, have a single steel bead, are choked .018/.025, the chambers measure 2 3/4 inches and have ejectors. The 26 inch Titanic steel barrels are marked with the matching serial number, the weight 3 pounds 2 ounces, are stamped "2x" on the forearm lug, have a single steel bead, are choked cylinder/cylinder, the chambers measure 2 3/4 inches and have ejectors. Each barrel has it's own multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm that is stamped with the matching number on the inside of the forearm hardware and with a "1" or a "2". Mounted on a nicely figured, fancy checkered walnut straight grip stock with teardrop flats, silver initial oval and Pachmayr recoil pad. Length of pull is 13 5/8 inches. The Parker Serialization book lists this gun as a Grade 4 20 gauge with 30 inch barrels, a pistol grip stock and no extras. Comes with a takedown hardcase and cleaning supplies.

Very good as period refurbished, the 30 inch barrels retain most of the rust blue finish with some scattered minor wear and light handling marks. The 26 inch barrels have been shortened and numbered to the gun at a later date. They retain most of the high quality rust blue finish with only some minor wear and light handling marks. Both sets of barrels have had the chambers lengthened. The casehardened components retain 95% plus of the case colors with some areas that have faded. Some of the engraving is faint. The replacement wood is excellent with a few scattered scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
