The included Colt factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length, finish, "U.S.M.C. # 75" marked on the butt and walnut grips. The revolver was shipped to U.S. Marine Corps Assistant Quartermaster of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 24, 1905 as part of a 200 gun shipment. The left side of the barrel is marked "COLT. D.A. 38" and the top has the two line Colt markings of "COLT'S PT. FA. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A /PATENTED AUG.5.1884 NOV.6.88, MAR 5.95", the butt is marked "U.S./M.C." behind the lanyard ring and "No/75" in front of it. The left rear of the frame is marked with the circled Colt Rampant. The frame, crane and cylinder release lever are all marked with the matching assembly number "75". Blade front and frame notch rear sight, and fitted with checkered walnut grips with a diamond around the screw that are numbered to the gun. The bottom of the right grip panel is stamped with a star. There were only approximately 925 of these revolvers manufactured for the U.S. Marines, certainly making these extremely difficult to find or obtain on today's market.
