Scarce World War II Mauser Factory "Ub" Marked Test Luger

This is a scarce example of a WWII Mauser factory test Luger. These test Lugers are very scarce as they were usually made up from old or out of tolerance parts that were assembled by the factory for internal test such as ammunition testing and special projects such as cutaways. These are easily identified by the poorly fitting parts and do not carry any final factory proof or acceptance marks. Additionally they have a large "Ub" stamped on top of the chamber which may indicate "Untersuching" or investigate/examine. This example also has a large "A" engraved on top of the breech end of the barrel, which could indicate that this barrel was intended to be shot and then analyzed. This scarce example is made from a WWI frame that has been restamped "1908" on the front with the lower grip strap stamped with two different Weimar Police property markings. It is fitted with a unmarked or unproofed barrel extension that has a late production Mauser replacement barrel that is stamped "42" on the underside. The side of the barrel does carry the standard "Eagle/135" Waffenamt proof on the side along with the large "A", noted above. The front toggle has the "42" wartime code for the Mauser factory and all the parts were with numbered "1908" or renumbered "08" to match. It still retained its grips with both stamped "08" on the back sides. It is fitted with a late production "fxo" marked blue magazine with an unnumbered aluminum base.
