Manufacturer: Nagoya Model: Type 99
This is a very nice example of a mid-WWII Japanese Type 99 sniper rifle that was manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory of Nagoya Arsenal, that is complete with an original 4X snipe scope and original carrying case. The rifle itself it the standard type 99 that has the adjustable tangent rear sight with peep that was produced without the antiaircraft wings and is graduated from 3-15 (300-1500 meters) that has the inverted "V" front sight with the guards. The chrysanthemum on top of the receiver ring is intact, but has been struck once across it and the Kana markings are intact. The rear receiver ring has the Nagoya arsenal proof over the serial number (4637). It has the late war style stock with no drain hole, the cupped buttplate and side mounted sling swivels. The scope is an original 4X internally adjustable model that is marked on front portion of the tube, 4 X 7/EK inside a double invert triangle/No.10590", with Kana markings on the lower left side of the scope base. The rear locking plate is stamped with number "1403". The reticle has the large grid pattern cross-hairs that is calibrated from 1-15 (for 100-1500 meters) elevation below the center line, with 20 degrees wind deflection on either side of the center line. The scope is complete with an original canvas scope case for the standard 4X scope. This rifle has an original matching turned down sniper bolt with a matching extractor, cocking knob, front barrel band and a unnumbered firing pin. This fine rifle is complete with early Type 30 hook bayonet, with the polished blade and steel scabbard. The blade is marked with the Kokura Arsenal symbol.
BBL: 25 1/2 inch round
Stock: hardwood
Gauge: 7.7 mm Japanese
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 4637
Condition:
Extremely fine with 95% plus original blue finish overall with wear on the edges, high spots and cycling marks on the bolt body. The stock and handguard are both fine with their original WWII Japanese finish showing numerous handling marks on the sides and underside of the stock, with clear Toriimatsu factory proof marks on the underside of the stock. The sniper scope retains 98% of it's original wartime finish with some minor wear on the edges with clear sharp optics. The scope case is also excellent with 98% of the original green color on the outside with tight stitching showing only edge wear overall. A very nice looking all original and desirable WWII Japanese sniper rifle. These are a very significant part of any WWII collection and are probably one of the most under valued of all original sniper rifles on the market today.
