Scarce Winchester Model 53 Takedown Lever Action Sporting Rifle

Winchester manufactured only about 25,000 Model 53s from 1924 to 1932. This model was in fact a slightly more modern version of the Model 1892. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22" tapered barrel. This rifle was manufactured in 1925, and features a blade front sight with brass bead and adjustable sporting rear sight and half magazine. The barrel is marked with the two line address on the right rear, model, trademark, caliber designation and "NICKEL STEEL" legend on the left side and standard three line trade mark marking on the upper tang, the Winchester oval proof on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech and the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with serrated shotgun buttplate.

Very fine. The rifle retains 85% plus original blue finish with some thinning to gray, some minor flaking and edge wear. The takedown ring is a smooth mottled brown patina with strong original blue on the right side. There are a few minor dings on the barrel. The wood is also very fine with almost all of the original finish remaining and showing some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
