Winchester manufactured only about 25,000 Model 53s from 1924 to 1932. This model was in fact a slightly more modern version of the Model 1892. It was available in only one style, the Sporting Rifle with a 22" tapered barrel. This rifle was manufactured in 1928, and features a blade front sight with brass bead and adjustable sporting rear sight and half magazine. The barrel is marked with the two line address on the right rear, model, trademark, caliber designation and "NICKEL STEEL" on the left side and standard three line trade mark marking on the upper tang, the Winchester oval proof on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech and the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Mounted with a custom multi point and diamond pattern checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with serrated shotgun buttplate.
