This is 1 of only 5,000 Model 1895 rifles that was manufactured with the desirable flat-sided receiver. The included Cody Museum letter confirms the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, and plain trigger and that the rifle was received in the warehouse on May 11, 1897 and shipped on August 28, 1897 (order number 14474). The rifle has a blade front sight and a buckhorn rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address and "38 72 W.C.F." on the top flat. The upper tang is marked "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1895" and the lower tang is stamped with the serial number. Directly behind the trigger is the two line patent dates marking. Smooth forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Condition: Good. The rifle has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The wood is good with some minor dings and scratches. The forearm has a repaired minor crack (right side), a dent on the underside, and a minor missing chip (right side). The buttstock has an area of shallow gouges (right side) and a few barely noticeable hairline cracks near the upper tang. Mechanically fine.
