Scarce Winchester Model 1895 Deluxe Lever Action Short Rifle with Factory Letter
Manufactured in 1902. This rifle has a full blue finish with fancy highly figured checkered walnut stock and forearm with oil finish. The forearm has an ebony inlay on the tip and the stock is fitted with a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. The barrel is fitted with a blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights mounted on the barrel and a Lyman peep sight mounted on the left side of the receiver. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "- NICKEL STEEL BARREL - / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" with the caliber designation "30 U.S." on top at the breech. The upper receiver tang is marked "WINCHESTER / MODEL 1895" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The left side of the receiver has the elongated two-line Winchester address/patent dates. The accompanying Cody letter verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, barrel length, fancy checkered stock, rubber buttplate, oil finish, front and receiver Lyman sights, that it was received in the warehouse on September 3, 1902 and shipped out the next day.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 80% original finish thinning in areas and showing some light spotting and evidence of cleaning with on the right front. There is some minor pitting on the left side of the receiver which has 60% original blue with the balance a brown and gray patina. The receiver sight has some minor pitting. The wood is also fine with a few minor scratches and dings on the stock. The checkering remains crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
