This is an example of a scarce Winchester Model 1873 22 rimfire that was manufactured in 1889. Blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights, with the two-line address/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and the caliber marking, "22 Cal Short" on the elevator, serial number on the lower tang and "MODEL 1873" on the upper tang. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a steel forearm cap and straight grip stock with iron crescent buttplate.
BBL: 24 inch octagon
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 22 S
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 320953B
Condition: Good with traces of the original finish with the balance aged to a plum patina and some areas of metal exposed, light dings appear on the side plates. The rifle appears to have been cleaned on a wheel with some battering to the dust cover which is loose, however not unexpected for 1873s which were used. The wood is fine showing some use marks, dings, and scratches consistent with a weapon of this age which was used. The magazine tube is likely a replacement and the action needs minor work. A solid example of an 1873 that was only manufactured for a few years in a caliber very popular in today's market.
