Scarce Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Military Pattern Rifle with Sling and Bayonet
This is a commercial serial range military pattern Winchester-Lee rifle with an unusual serial number. It was produced in 1897, and equipped with hooded blade front and ladder rear sights. The chamber is marked with the serial number, and the left side of the receiver is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.-/ NEW HAVEN.CONN.U.S.A. PAT.OCT.10.93.JAN.30.94.OCT.8.95" in two lines. Smooth pistol grip stock with a half length upper handguard, sling swivels, brown leather sling and smooth trapdoor buttstock. With a knife bayonet, 8 1/4" bright single fuller blade with "T in triangle" ricasso stamp, smooth grips, "9156" on the pommel, and leather sheath with metal throat and tip and leather belt hanger. Winchester manufactured approximately 1700 Straight Pull Sporting Rifles between 1895 and 1902.

Condition: Near mint as arsenal refurbished/converted to sniper specification with 99% of the original blue finish, showing minor wear on the edges and high spots with some minor handling marks. Stock is excellent overall and shows a nice all original dark Winchester finish, with minor handling marks with two areas of doweled repair; one directly behind the receiver and the other directly in front of the heel of the buttplate. Mild cracking of the leather, dings on the blade. Mechanically excellent.
