Scarce Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Deluxe Sporting Rifle

Manufactured in 1899. These scarce rifles were manufactured with the same action as the Winchester-Lee Straight Pull Rifle adopted by the U.S. Navy in 1895 and chambered for the then revolutionary 6mm Lee (.236) cartridge. This rifle is 1 of only approximately 1,700 Sporting rifles manufactured by Winchester. Marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.-/NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT.OCT.10.93.JAN.30.94.OCT.8.95." on the left side of the receiver, the serial number is on top of the front receiver ring, "MANUFACTURED BY/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-" on top of the barrel in front of the rear sight and "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" to the rear. The caliber ".236 U.S.N." is stamped on top at the breech. Ramped blade front and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights and mounted with a one-piece checkered walnut stock with grasping grooves, hard rubber Winchester grip cap and steel shotgun buttplate.

Extremely fine. The rifle retains 85% plus original blue finish with some thinning to smooth plum and showing some edge wear. The stock is excellent with a nice tiger stripe grain on the buttstock, and overall some minor dents and scratches and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
