Scarce Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Lightweight Lever Action Rifle

This is a desirable example of a Winchester Model 1886 special order, deluxe, "non-take down", light-weight rifle chambered in 33 WCF. This desirable rifle has four special order features that include 1) a pistol grip stock, 2) extra fancy deluxe walnut stock and forend, 3) checkering on both the stock and forend, 4) half-length magazine. Based on the serial number of this rifle it was manufactured in late 1907 and is chambered for the new, smokeless powder 33 W.C.F., cartridge, that was developed in 1902. The stock and forearm are deluxe, extra fancy grain walnut with Style H checkering and a subdued piano finish. The stock has a black, hard rubber, checkered, shotgun style buttplate with the Winchester logo embossed in the center. The barrel has a Lyman "Hunting front sight" with colored bead and an adjustable rear sight. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT. OCT. 14.1884.JAN. 20.1885." in two lines ahead of the rear sight and "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines on the left rear of the barrel. The caliber designation "33 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel immediately ahead of the take-down collar. The lower tang is roll-stamped with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates behind the trigger and the serial number "144710" behind the rear tang screws. The rifle has an all blued finish with color casehardened hammer and lever.

Serial Number: 144710

Very fine overall with 85% of the blued finish with wear/blue loss on the nosecap, underside and top receiver ring of the action. The hammer and cocking lever both retain 25% of case colors overall with the balance turning a silvery patina. The stock and forend both retain much of their original factory oil finish. The checkered panels are both in fine condition with nice original visible checkering showing wear and some flattening of the checkering from actual field use. There is one repair visible on the right rear side of the forend. A fine example of an Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 lightweight lever action rifle.
