August 11, 1814-Dated War of 1812, Partially-Printed Enlistment Document, State of New Hampshire, $50 Enlistment Bounty, Choice Very Fine.
Original Partially-Printed United States Army Enlistment Document for Charles Howland, Jr., who has enlisted at Walpole, New Hampshire on August 15, 1814. Enlistment is for the period of up to Five Years. Well printed and nicely engrossed in the manuscript portions, Signed by Private Howland and a Justice of the Peace. Also Signed by a surgeon attesting that Howland is fit for duty, followed by the signature of Colonel Daniel Dana, who is supervising the recruiting of troops. Howland signs again upon receipt of $50 Bounty. Ten days after Howland's enlistment, the British occupied and burned Washington and the following month, they would invade and occupy eastern Maine. Size is about 8" x 9.5" with minor edge splits/wear, with no distinguishable paper loss. Scarce.
