Scarce coin purse, c.1918-1920, with hinged metal frame & lid & leather pouch body. The metal portion showing a portrait of General John Pershing in a laurel wreath flanked on either side by an American flag. Above his portrait is "General Pershing." Inside the lid is an advertising note: "Compliments of  Lloyd T. Binford, Eminent Consul The Columbian Woodsmen, Our "Brave Boys" protected humanity, Gen Pershing protected our "Brave Boys" He valued each life for $10,000.00 of Insurance, At how much do you value YOUR life for your "Loved Ones" protection. Snap closure. 3" W X 2 1/4" H. John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing GCB (September 13, 1860 - July 15, 1948) was an officer in the United States Army. Pershing is the only person, while still alive, to rise to the highest rank ever held in the United States Army--General of the Armies--equivalent only to the posthumous rank of George Washington. Pershing led the American Expeditionary Force in World War I & was regarded as a mentor by the generation of American generals who led the United States Army in Europe during World War II.
