Scarce WWI Era Blue Star Flag for six family members in the service, measuring 32''x48'', made predominantly of red bunting with white attached panels and six blue stars to one side. Machine-sewn hoist with dual brass grommets. It is interesting to note that the Blue Star flag was designed and patented by WWI Army Capt. Robert Queisser, and in 1918 President Wilson approved it. During WWII the practice of displaying this type of flag became much more widespread. One of the most famous flags was that of the five Sullivan brothers who all perished on the USS Juneau. Condition is very good with tattering to folds of red material. Center white panel and blue stars remain tightly affixed. From the estate of William Betts Keeler. Est.: $300-500.
