Olympic hockey ticket from the 1980 US vs USSR game, named by Sports Illustrated as the ''Top Sports Moment of the 20th Century.'' Going into the Lake Placid Games, the Russian team was considered an easy lock to win their fifth straight gold medal. With cold war tensions between America and the Soviet Union underpinning the game, this contest took on added meaning -- each team desperate to win for their country. On 22 February 1980 they played to a sold-out crowd of 8,500 with the American team miraculously winning 4-3. This unused ticket, with attached stub, lists ''Playoff 17:00-19:30'', which was the United States vs. the Soviet Union game. Ticket features the Olympic rings, hockey symbol and logo for the Lake Placid Games. Measures 7.5'' x 2.25''. Encapsulated by PSA, which graded the ticket 4, very good to excellent.
