This is an example of a Model 1851 Late Navy-Navy Revolver. The serial number range of the Late Navy-Navies (89,000-91,000) falls in the serial number range of the Early Fourth Model. The revolver features iron grip straps, three screw frame and percussion cut-out without a capping groove. The top barrel flat has the one line Hartford address, "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." on the left side of the frame and the cylinder has the navy scene with "COLTS PATENT No 90453". The iron back strap is not stamped with the "U.S.N." marking or an inspector's initials, a common feature for Late Navy-Navies. The left trigger guard shoulder is stamped with a small letter "G". The revolver has matching numbers. Fitted with a smooth one piece grip.

Condition: Very good. The revolver has a smooth dark patina with some mild pitting. Traces of the cylinder scene remain. The refinished grip is fine with a putty filled repair and a few scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. Original percussion U.S.N. Colt Model 1851's are nearly impossible to find as most were converted to cartridge in 1872.
