Scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1871 Ward Burton Single Shot Bolt Action Carbine
One of only 316 produced, this is a solid original example of a scarce Ward-Burton Calvary carbine. The Ward-Burton was one of the top 4 performers at the 1870 Breechloader Trials, alongside the Sharps, Remington and Allin, with the Allin system winning out. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD 1871" on the left side of the receiver and "WARD-BURTON PATENT / DEC.20.1859 FEB.21.1871" on top of the bolt. Smooth straight grip stock, with a saddle ring and bar on the left side next to a pair of faint cartouches, and "US" on the buttplate heel.

Condition: very good plus. The barrel and receiver show a mix gray patina, light pitting at the muzzle and signs of protective varnish. Stock is very good, with two partially visible cartouches, scattered chips and dents, dark spots concentrated around the buttplate, and mild scratches. Mechanically excellent.
