Estimate: $1500 - 2000
White buff leather Pattern 1839 Foot Artillery Sword Belt with two-piece brass Pattern 1839 Enlisted Artillery Belt Plate. This belt was the standard belt for the Model 1839 Artillery Sword during the Mexican War and remained in service until white buff leather was replaced by black leather in the U.S. Army in 1851. The Model 1839 two piece brass belt buckle with cast "US" was issued to enlisted men in foot and horse artillery units. The belt is complete with original brass belt plate, two buff leather keepers and buff leather sword frog suspended from two brass rings on the left side of the belt. The belt has no maker's, unit or personal markings.

Condition: Excellent. The buff leather is not stained and shows little use. All of the stitching is tight. The two-piece Pattern 1839 Belt Plate is in excellent condition. This is an excellent example of a hard-to-find Mexican War era belt for the Model 1839 Artillery Sword.
