Scarce U.S.M.C. Colt Model 1909 Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter
Only 1200 M1909 DA revolvers were manufactured by Colt for the Marine Corps and surviving examples are scarce. Accompanied by a factory letter confirming it's configuration other than the grips which are listed as "checkered wood" and are now smooth walnut. The revolver was originally shipped to U.S. Marine Corps Depot Quartermaster Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1909, in a shipment of 350 other revolvers. With high polish blue finish, niter blue hammer and trigger. The butt has a lanyard loop and is marked: "US/ MC" on one side of the loop and "No/ 165" on the other side. The top of the barrel has the two-line Hartford address and 1884, 1900 and 1905 patent dates. The Rampant Colt trademark is in a stylized "C" behind the cylinder latch. The Colt assembler's mark "3" is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow and stamped on the inside of the frame.

Good as partially refinished, the frame. 90% thinning original blue finish remains on the barrel with some handling marks and a few light surface scratches scattered. The cylinder retains 30% original finish the balance is now a mottled brown patina. The frame has been professionally refinished with some minor surface scratches and spotting. The grips are fine with minor pressure marks and dings.
