Scarce U.S.M.C. Colt Model 1909 Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter
Only 1200 Model 1909 revolvers were manufactured by Colt for the Marine Corps and surviving examples are scarce. The included factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, blue finish and checkered walnut stocks. The revolver was shipped to the U.S. Marine Corps Depot Quartermaster at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 30 November 1909 in a shipment of 400 guns. The top of the barrel has the two line Hartford address/1884-1905 patent dates (weak but legible) and "COLT DA 45" on the left side. The butt has a lanyard loop and is marked "US / MC / No / 1 / 157". Matching serial number on frame and crane.

Fair. The revolver overall has a smooth brown patina with some traces of blue with some minor scratches. The markings are weak and barely legible. The front grip strap has a smooth gray patina. Overall there is some scattered mild point pitting, with some light spotting on the cylinder. The refinished grips are slightly undersized with a contrasting wood repair on the right grip panel and a repaired chip on the left panel, otherwise very good with some minor handling marks and a small gash (left panel). The checkering is crisp. These U.S.M.C. 1909s were issued extensively and hard to find in any condition.
