Scarce Springfield Armory Model 1903 Hoffer-Thompson Bolt Action Gallery Rifle

This is an example of a 1910 manufactured Springfield Model 1903 rifle that has been converted into a .22 training rifle that uses the Hoffer-Thompson cartridge inserts. These were the predecessor to the Model 1922 series training rifles and were designed to be similar in weight and size as the standard Model 1903 rifles. The receiver is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY/MODEL 1903/456290", and the barrel is marked "SA/Ordnance bomb /9-10". The bolt is an early straight handled variation that is stamped "I 5" on the underside of the bolt lug. It is fitted with an early one bolt stock and handguard and is fitted with the correct milled parts, blade front sight and adjustable rear sight graduated to 2,800 yards. A total of approximately 15,525 were manufactured before these rifles were withdrawn from service and replaced by the Model 1922 rifle series.

Fine with 40% of the blue finish overall with even honest wear on the exposed parts with the floor plate showing a more dulled blue finish than the remaining parts. The stock and handguard are both very fine with nice original finish overall. Mechanically excellent.
