Starting life as American government surplus, a number of M14 rifles were provided to the Israeli government for use as infantry rifles. Following the Yom Kippur War, the best M14s in stock were upgraded to serve as sniper rifles. In 1993, the M14 was replaced, and the surplus rifle scopes and some components were acquired by Springfield Armory, which produced a special run of semi-automatic receivers for civilian sale. Post front and adjustable peep rear sights, with the special edition markings on the receiver and Springfield Armory markings on the barrel. Attached to the receiver is an Israeli single-point mount, carrying a Nimrod 6x40 scope. Textured and checkered stock, with a Harris 1A2 ultralight bipod, vented recoil pad and screw-on comb/buttpad extension. Included with the rifle is a heavily padded case with Israeli markings, 3 magazines in sealed packaging, a copy of the Army M14 manual, headspacing certificate, and a commercial PVS-2 night vision sight with carrying pouch, M1A base adaptor and a converter pack for use with AA batteries.
