Scarce Smith & Wesson Argentine Contract New Model No 3 Single Action Revolver Marked EJERCITO / AR
This is an example of one of the 2,000 S&W New Model number 3 revolvers sold to the Argentine Government by New York dealers Hartley & Graham. The revolver falls into the correct serial number range of 50 to 3400 for these scarce Argentine revolvers. The matching serial number is marked on the frame under the grips, barrel and stamped on the inside of the right grip panel. The barrel latch and cylinder are mis-matched (2460). The number "4" is visible on the butt next to the swivel. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent and reissue dates and the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger is stamped "EJERCITO / ARGENTINO". Blade front sight (altered, cut down on the back), notch rear sight, finger spur trigger guard and fitted with smooth two piece walnut grips with a lanyard ring on the butt.
BBL: 6 1/2 inch solid rib
Stock:
Gauge: 44 S&W
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 1014
Condition: Refinished with most of the heavily buffed dark blue finish remaining, showing minor spotting on the barrel and some dings (some under the finish), on the frame. The barrel rib marking is faint in places, but mostly readable and the under frame marking is clear. The action is fine.
