This fine example of a Sharps No. 2 Model 1874 Long Range Rifle manufactured in Bridgeport, Connecticut, circa 1875 to 1879. The top barrel flat is marked with the boxed "Old Reliable" and "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN". There is no caliber marking and the barrel gauges at 45 caliber. The left side of the receiver has the two line Sharps 1869 patent date. The matching serial number is marked on the upper tang and bottom barrel flat under the forearm and the forearm is numbered "6270". The tang number is correctly marked around the factory drilled holes and the peg. There is a globe front sight separate from the gun, however the dovetail slot is to large to accommodate it. There are no provisions for a rear sight and there is a long range tang mounted vernier peep sight. Mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate. It is estimated that only 258 of these No. 2 Long Range rifles were manufactured.
