Scarce “Rocky Mountain Steel”-mounted flintlock full stocked rifle, .50 cal., 46-1/2” octagon barrel, tiger striped wood stock with lockplate marked “Wm. Pomell”, no barrel markings, double set triggers (notworking at time of description). This gun is in overall very good condition showing a grey patina to metal surfaces with some scattered spots of erosion, steel patchbox, butt plate, trigger guard, fore end cap and ramrod ferrules; wood ramrod; wood is overall very good with a lovely patina. This gun is similar in appearance to a JJ Henry and Son “Steel Mounted Rifle” pictured on pages 66-67 of Hanson’s “The Hawken Rifle: Its Place inHistory”. Est.: $2,000-$4,000.
