Manufactured from 1860 to 1868 with a total production around 5,000 (included rifle and carbine variations, with the carbine the least produced making them very scarce). Note that this carbine has a 20" barrel (of the known examples most are found with a 22" barrel). The top rear of the bolt is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION N.Y. / PAT. FEBY 24 MCH 17, 1874 JAN. 18 / SEPT. 26 1876 MCH 20 JULY 31 1877". The number "433" is stamped on the left rear of the action. Blade front sight mounted on the barrel band and short folding military leaf style rear sight. This was Remington's first production bolt action carbine with an external, manually cocked hammer that functions only when the bolt is closed. Mounted with a half, straight grip stock with a iron forend cap with sling swivel, carbine buttplate and sling swivel on the bottom of the stock.
BBL: 20 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 45-70

Serial Number: 433
Condition: Fair. The carbine is mostly cleaned and refinished overall with an artificial brown-gray patina applied. There is some minor to deep pitting under the aforementioned refinish. There is a long hairline stress crack on the left side of the forearm, otherwise the refinished stock is good with some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
