Scarce Pre-World War II 1936 Dated S/42 Code German Navy Contract Mauser Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Navy Magazine

These early Lugers can only be distinguished by the serial number block of documented pistols (listed as being in the "l and m" letter suffix) and the Navy property markings on the grip straps. Marked "N/1445" on the front strap as issued by the North Sea Fleet. Chamber is dated 1936 and front toggle has "S/42". The right side barrel extension has double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proofs with an Eagle firing proof. The full serial number (5440L) is marked on the front of the frame, (5440) on the barrel underside and the left side of the barrel extension and the last two digits (40) stamped on the various small parts. One original German Navy issue magazine (nickel plated body with aluminum base marked "N4085/543/m/Eagle/63"), straw colored small parts and un-numbered checkered grips.

Manufucture: Mauser
Model: P08
BBL: 3 7/8 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger Auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 5440l

Very fine. The pistol retains 70% of the faded original blue finish showing some edge and high spot wear and thinning on the front strap. The various small parts retain 75% of the refinished straw colors. The grips are very good with even wear, some heavy pressure dents and crisp checkering. Matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the grips, both of which are unnumbered. A very nice example of an early 1936 date German Navy Luger.
