This is an excellent example of a scarce prewar Swedish commercial contract Walther Mod. HP pistol with early proof marks. This pistol has the early high polish, commercial blue finish. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner, "Waffenfabrik Walther Zella-Mehlis (Thur) / Walther's Patent Cal 9mm", and "MOD HP". A commercial "crown/N" proof is on the right side of the slide with the serial number (1752) stamped on the inside of the slide. It also has the correct external extractor. The right rear side of the slide is Police or Military marked "I 6 No. 67". The barrel is correctly serial numbered on the front of the locking lug, and the locking block is numbered "982" on the bottom; both have the same "crown/N" commercial proof on the right side. The pistol has the 'fat' safety lever, thin rear sight and checkered take-down lever with square firing pin. The right side of the frame is numbered "H1982" above the trigger guard bow The magazine is marked on the left side with "P38" with a single Eagle/359 Waffenamt on the back side. The checkered black hard rubber grips are marked on the inside with the four mold or proof marks as follows: the top one is a small circular with "CEWE; next is a single 480; over the maker's mark intertwined with V7/T1 over a single number 1".
BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: black checkered plastic
Serial Number: 1982
Condition: Very fine as assembled with 90% plus of the original high polish blue finish overall, with wear on the edges and high spots, the left side of the muzzle area, the front edges of the slide with some thinning on the grip straps. The grips are in very fine condition with nice checkering on both sides. The front sight blade is altered to a more squared off target configuration. The pistol has matching numbers except the slide as noted above. Still a very nice example of a scarce Swedish contract Walther HP pistol.
