Scarce Pre-War, Early Production Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle in 375 H&H Magnum with Three Digit Serial Number

Manufactured in 1936. Hooded ramp front sight and a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot on a barrel with the Winchester legend on the left side and the two line address on the right. A Winchester factory style oval proof is stamped (double stamped) on the barrel and receiver. The receiver is tapped for scope mounting at the front and has a Lyman sight (stock inletted). Pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to gun, cloverleaf receiver tang and sling swivels. The nicely figured and checkered pistol grip stock features a solid Winchester recoil pad. Rule's "The Rifleman's Rifle" shows that the #1 pattern barrel was the only standard style barrel used with the 375 H&H, and estimates that only 10 were manufactured in that configuration.

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus of the blue finish with the trigger guard thinning to a brown. The stock is very fine with some minor handling marks. Overall the checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
