Scarce Pre-War Commercial Contract Walther Model HP Pistol with Swedish Unit Marked Slide

Early proofmarks and the early high polish commercial blue finish. These early contract pistols are considered as a first variation M/39 second developmental stage production pistol with some very distinctive features such as the early external extractor, fat safety lever, thin rear sight and checkered takedown lever with square firing pin, with most if not all of these features changed in later production models. There were only approximately 1,029 pistols in this production run with most retained in Sweden. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner followed by the address, model and caliber. Directly above the slide legend is the Swedish Unit marks "I 17 No.84", (17th Infantry Regiment, pistol inventory number 84). These unit markings were hand stamped by the Swedish Army after receipt and are considered very scarce today as most of these markings were removed once the pistols were intended for sale on the post-war commercial market. The right side of the slide, frame and locking block have the correct Commercial "Crown/N" proof with the matching serial numbers stamped on the inside of the slide, front of the barrel lug, right side of the frame (H2010) with "010" stamped on the locking block. It is fitted with the original checkered Bakelite HP pattern grips and later wartime magazine marked "P.38v" on the left side with an "Eagle/359" Waffenamt on the spine.

Excellent with 95% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear, with blue loss on the front grip strap. The grips are excellent with minor handling marks. As noted this exceptional early Swedish contract, Walther HP pistol has matching numbers except the magazine. Mechanically excellent.
