Scarce New Haven Arms Company Volcanic Pocket Pistol
Barrel top is marked "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB 14, 1854" indicating that the pistol was manufactured after Volcanic's reorganization in April 1857 and the formation of the New Haven Arms Company. The company was formed to continue production of the former Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. These pistols were produced in 30 caliber and used the same basic frame as the original Volcanic. The serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip panel and the matching number is stamped on the inside of each panel. The barrels were blue, casehardened lever and hammer and brass frame, pinched blade front and fixed iron rear sights and fitted with smooth two piece varnished walnut grips. Production of these scarce pistols ran from 1857 to 1860 with only 225 made in the 6 inch barrel configuration.

Condition: Very good as partially refinished, the barrel which has a smooth mottled brown patina with strong traces of blue finish in protected areas. The forward barrel extensive has been cold blued. The lever and hammer have a smooth dark mottled patina. The frame has an aged patina. The left grip panel has a glue repaired minor crack on the inside, otherwise the grips are very good with 95% original varnish, some lower edge wear and some scattered minor dings and dents. The marking is clear. The lever sags a bit, otherwise the action is fine.
