Scarce Model 1906 DWM Royal Portuguese Navy Contract Luger Pistol

This First Contract Model 1906 DWM Luger was manufactured for the Royal Portuguese Navy as part of the original contract model made before 1910 when the Republic of Portugal was established. An estimated total of 1,000 were manufactured, however the highest known serial number to date is 769. The chamber has the large Portuguese Crown over a single fouled naval anchor with the "DWM" logo on the front toggle. Has the earlier 1906 style frame with grip safety, no stock lug, and the correct polished lower safety area without markings and the "CARREGADA" marked extractor. The lower left barrel extension is correctly stamped with the Portuguese proof of "MP". Numbered in the correct commercial manner with no letter suffix. Standard commercial finish, checkered grips and unmarked nickel plated magazine with a commercial wooden base that is re-marked "Cal 9m/m".

Fine. The pistol retains 70% of the original factory rust blue finish, with the balance turning a dulled brown patina. The various small parts retain 60% of their straw colors. The grips are good with crisp checkering, showing even honest wear across the tops of the checkering and extensive handling marks. This scarce variation has matching numbers with correctly un-numbered firing pin, grips and magazine.
