Scarce Mauser "Zig-Zag" Revolver

Nicknamed for the machined grooves that serve to cycle and lock the cylinder, the Model 1886 was an improved break-open version of the 1878. While sturdy and well-made, the 1886 was discontinued in favor of the 1896 'Broomhandle' semi-automatic pistol, though some are known to have been carried by participants in the First World War. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the top of the barrel rib marked "GEBR.MAUSER&Cie OBERNDORF a/N. WURTTEMBERG.1878." and a vented cutout above the cylinder. A safety switch is installed on the left side of the barrel lug, which interfaces with the cylinder and locks out the release latch on the front. Fitted with a checkered casehardened single action hammer and a pair of Gutta-Percha grips with raised scroll and dragon designs.
