Scarce Mauser Banner Model 1935/06 First Contract Portuguese Navy Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This Luger is one of only about seventy examples made by the Mauser factory under contract for the Portuguese Navy in 1935. These were serial numbered in the 2500v to 2571v range, and used the 1906 variation frame with the grip safety, no stock lug on rear grip strap and 4 inch 9mm caliber barrel. These pistols saw extensive use until the 1970s. This pistol is marked on the toggle with the standard Mauser "Banner" logo and there is no chamber date or markings. It has commercial "crown/U" test proofs on the bottom of the barrel, left side of the receiver and on the left side of the breechblock. The safety marking on the left side of the frame is marked "SEGURANCA" and the extractor is properly marked "CARREGADA". The numbered parts on this example are all matching with the full serial number "2555v" stamped on the front of the frame above the trigger guard, the number "2555" on the bottom of the barrel and the left side of the receiver, and the last two digits "55" on the various small parts, and including the steel sheet magazine with aluminum bottom which is properly marked "2555/+" without the letter suffix. The pistol is fitted with checkered walnut grips.

Very fine. The pistol retains 60% original blue finish with scattered light spotting, mainly on the frame, and scattered light scratches with the finish on the grip straps having turned to mostly an even brown patina. The side plate is a renumbered replacement. The small parts retain 60% original straw color. The grips are very good with some bruises, nicks and small dings, and well defined checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
