Scarce Martially Inspected U.S. Pettengill Patent Double Action Army Revolver
German silver cone front and top strap groove rear sights, with "PETTENGILLS/ PATENT 1856" and "PATd JULY 22 1856/ & JULY 27 1858" around the sighting groove and "PATENTED / NOV. 4 1862" on the underside of the frame. Matching serial number on the cylinder, with "WW" stamped on the barrel, frame and cylinder. Smooth flared butt grips, with a boxed "WW" cartouche on the left panel and "W" on each side of the butt.

Condition: Fine. 60% of the original blue finish remains, strongest on the barrel, with a brown patina on the cylinder, mixed gray and brown on the frame, and some overall edge wear, spotting and handling marks. Grips are fine as revarnished, some small minor scratches and dings. Mechanically excellent. U.S. inspected Pettengill Army revolvers are extremely rare.
