Scarce Long Flute Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Manufactured in 1915 with a long fluted cylinder left over from the production of the Model 1878 double action revolver. The long flute variation is one of the scarcest variations of the Single Action Army Revolver. The serial number range on these revolvers is 330001 to 331379, making this revolver one of the very first to be made with the long flutes. The top of the barrel is marked with two-line address "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.", the left side is marked "45 COLT" and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line, three-patent date marking followed by the Rampant Colt. The left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with the triangle "VP" proofmark and "1" at the rear. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap and assembly number "706" is marked on the loading gate. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer and frame, and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top.

Fine. The revolver retains 30% original blue finish concentrated in protected areas and in the cylinder fluted. The balance has a smooth gray patina with flashes of original case colors on the hammer and frame. The undersize replacement grips are very good having faded to a dark brown, and showing some minor dings and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
