Scarce Late WWII Nazi VK-98 Volksgewehr Rifle In 7.92 Kurz
This is another excellent example of a late WWII German "VK-98" or Volksgewehr or Peoples Rifle. These late war single shot rifles are extremely rare, not only because they produced so few of them but because they looked awful and not many GI's brought these home as war souvenirs. This specific rifle is even rarer in that it is chambered in "7.92 Kurz" which was the short 7.92 mm round developed for the MP44 assault rifles. These models were all made by the Steyr factory and the top of the receiver has the late war "bnz 45" markings with no acceptance or firing proofs with only a single letter "V" on the underside of the receiver. This rifle has the heavier rough turned machine gun barrel that shows the late war exterior finish with a single step in the barrel. The caliber (7,92 KURZ) is stamped on top of the barrel in a small milled out section, with the serial number (471) is located on the left side. The matching serial number is also stamped on top of the bolt and on top of the simple recoil lug in the stock. This rifle has only a follower inside the action that allows the shooter to drop a single round on top of it so that it can be loaded into the chamber. The bolt is the late war version that is without the guide rib with the serial number on top and a single letter "V" on the underside, with no other proof marks anywhere. For sight these used a simple front post that was welded on to the top of the barrel (properly correct counter bored at the muzzle) with a simple "v" style rear sight dovetailed into the top of the front recover ring. The stock is correctly made from beech with minimal machining or inletting with flat sides with no buttplate or magazine assembly with only a small cut out through the butt area for the sling to slide through with a simple wire loop through the front of the stock and a simple bent steel trigger guard.

A unique example of the Ultra rare late VK-98 rifle in the 7.92 KURZ caliber.
