Scarce Iron Frame Brown Southerner Single Shot Deringer with Engraving

Manufactured from 1869 to 1873 with about 10,000 manufactured. The iron frame variation numbers only approximately 3,000. The sides of the frame are decorated with floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background. Marked "SOUTHERNER" on the top flat of the barrel and "BROWN MF'G Co./NEWBURYPORT. MASS./PAT APR.9, 1867" on the left side. The matching serial number is marked on the butt, bottom of the barrel and on the extractor. The pistol is finished blue and it is fitted with smooth rosewood grips.

Very good. The barrel retains traces thin original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the remaining metal surfaces. The grips are good with some wear and minor chips on the lower edges, and a few minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
