Scarce Hopkins & Allen Single Action Army Revolver
Manufactured in the late 1870s and early 1880s with an estimated total production of only 600 to 800, these revolvers were considered by many to be the finest handgun made under the Hopkins & Allen name. No evidence exists of any actual military or government purchase, however, they are traditionally classified as "Secondary Martial" revolvers. Marked "HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG CO / PAT. MCH 28.71 MAY 27.79 / XL NO.8" on the top strap. There are no other visible markings other than the serial number "117" marked on the bottom of the barrel and on the left side of the frame under the grip. Blade front and notch rear sights, casehardened hammer, sliding loading gate, black checkered grips and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 75% of the thinning finish with scattered areas of flaking and "fogging" of the finish. The front strap has a smooth brownish patina. The hammer retains 80% of the original bright case colors. The grips are excellent with only a minor cut on the left panel, a couple of minor scrapes on the right panel and sharp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
