Scarce Hitler Youth Flak Helper's Helmet

Formed after the collapse of the German offensive against Stalingrad and the ramping-up of the Allied area bombardment campaign, the Flak Helpers, also known as auxiliary artillery personnel, were school-aged boys between 15 and 17 who were drafted to man anti-aircraft positions whose original operators were being thrown at the Eastern Front, under the supervision of Luftwaffe NCOs. While technically still beholden to the Hitler Youth, many of the helpers thought of themselves as Luftwaffe soldiers first. Overall, the helmet is close to the Model 1940 pattern, with the addition of a raised ring around the base and some defects in the rolled edge, which were not considered sufficiently damning to keep the helmet out of second line use. On the left side are a Luftwaffe eagle decal over the Hitler Youth diamond. The chinstrap is connected directly to the leather liner, and the underside of the rim is marked "066/DN536".

Good overall, with mild scuffing of the finish and light wear on the decals. The webbing is good, with some hand-markings and staining.
