Scarce Golden 20 July 1944 Wound Badge

Established following the 20 July Plot, in which a bomb planted by Claus von Stauffenberg detonated in the conference room of the Rasterburg Headquarters, the 20 July Wound Badge was only issued to the 24 men who were attending the conference with Hitler when the bomb went off. Of all the attempts to end Hitler, both by Germans and foreign agents, von Stauffenberg's bomb represents the closest the Fuhrer came to death until the final days in Berlin. The 20 July Badge followed the same pattern as the Wound Badge, with the Gold-tier being reserved for men who had been wounded on 5 separate occasions or suffered wounds resulting in total disability, blindness, emasculation or death. Seven men received the Gold Badge for the bombing itself, four posthumously, and an unknown number of others were upgraded to Gold later, due to additional injuries suffered during the war. Gilt silver construction, with bright polishing on the swastika, the "20, JULI/1944" legend and the copy of Hitler's signature. The rear bears the marking "L/12" over "800", and is equipped with a barrel hinge pin.
