First listed in records as arms merchants in 1833, the firm of James N. Hyde and Charles W. Goodrich supplied cavalry sabers and pikes to the Confederate States, only stopping when the Union occupied New Orleans. Fixed sights, with "DERINGER/ PHILADELA" stamped on the breech next to "MAN'D FOR/HYDE & GOODRICH/AGENTS N.O", with a pair of 18k gold bands on the breech. Derringer's address is repeated on the lock plate, with engraving on the lock, hammer, tang and the combination silver and German silver furniture. Full length, fancy burl walnut stock, (with piano finish), a German silver headed ebony ramrod and a checkered bird's head grip with capbox.

Fine. The barrel shows a mixed brown and gray patina, with mild pitting concentrated on the left rear corner, and a smoother gray on the hammer and lock. The German silver components show mild handling marks, with a well aged patina on the silver parts. The stock is good, with a crack running between the tip and the front trigger guard finial, scattered dings, sharp checkering and attractive grain. Mechanically excellent.
