Scarce Factory Engraved Osgood Gun Works Duplex Revolver with Scarce Monarch Marking
Manufactured circa 1880s with total quantity estimated at several hundred. This revolver features a .22 caliber, eight shot cylinder and a .32 caliber rimfire single shot center barrel which also acts as the cylinder pin. It has a hammer striker which pivots for selective firing with the revolver or the single-shot center barrel. The barrel pivots downward for loading. A few specimens, such as this one, are marked "MONARCH" on the top strap/barrel latch. The sides of the frame and backstrap feature a broad floral scroll engraving, with a dot/zigzag line and floral pattern incorporated on the right side of the frame. The sides of the barrel have a dot/zigzag line pattern with the .32 caliber barrel featuring an arrow engraving at the muzzle. The top strap/barrel latch and cylinder is also engraved with the dot/zigzag line pattern, with a geometric engraving on the top strap. Nickel plated with gold plated cylinder. Fitted with checkered hard rubber grips. Matching serial number on the cylinder and frame.

Fine. The revolver retains 70% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The backstrap has a smooth brown patina. There is some traces of gold in the cylinder flutes. The grips are excellent with some scattered minor handling marks along with a minor scuff mark on the bottom of the left panel. Overall the checkering is crisp. The engraving is clear and crisp.
