Manufactured circa 1859 to 1868. This example is a Model IV and features factory floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the breech end of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and upper and lower back strap. There is a shell design on the top of the back strap and an animal head on the hammer sides. The cylinder is engraved with the standard 5 oval panels and the 1859 patent date. The top barrel flat is marked "MANHATTAN FIRE ARMS CO. NEWARK, N.J./PATENTED MARCH 8, 1864" with a scallop border and the matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with a one-piece varnished walnut grip.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains scattered traces of bright original blue finish, with most being on the lower flat under the loading lever. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. There is some minor pitting on the loading lever. The trigger guard and back strap retain 70% original silver plating, most of which has darkened with age. The exposed brass has an aged patina. The grip is very fine with most of the original varnish remaining with some scattered minor dings and dents. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent.
