Scarce Factory Engraved Colt Cloverleaf House Model Revolver with Ivory Grips

Manufactured in 1871, the first year of production. This four shot version is known as the "Cloverleaf" due to the shape of the cylinder when viewed from the front. The top of the barrel is marked "COLTS HOUSE PISTOL/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." flanked by Maltese crosses. A floral scroll and dot engraving is featured on the rear sides of the frame and behind the hammer with line and dash motif engraved around the frame sighting groove. This embellishment is at least New York, if not factory engraving. Either way, it is highly desirable! The barrel is numbered to the gun. Integral pinched blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with smooth ivory birds head grips.

Very good plus. The revolver retains 25% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The hammer retains traces of original niter blue finish. The frame has a smooth mellow aged patina. The slightly shrunken grips are very fine with a few minor handling marks. The ivory has an attractive grain pattern and color. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically excellent.
