Scarce Etched Panel Colt Model 1878 Double Action Sheriff's Model Frontier Six-Shooter Revolver

This is a desirable Colt "Sheriff's" Model 1878 revolver that was manufactured in 1882. The revolver has a four-inch barrel without the ejector rod. The frame itself is the desirable (and distinctive) fluted style. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address and the left side has the acid etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". "44 CF" is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The serial number is located on the butt, partial serial number "819" is marked on the rear face of the cylinder between the chambers as well as the letter "Z", and the loading gate is stamped "90". Nickel finish with niter blue small parts and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt in an oval at the top.

Excellent. The revolver retains 85% plus of the original nickel finish, showing some flaking on the grip straps and along the high edges, and some mild spotting and handling marks. Most of the bright original niter blue remains on the hammer and trigger. The grips are very fine replacements with some dents and scratches. The markings are clear.
