Manufactured in 1874. This four shot version is known as the "Cloverleaf" due to the shape of the cylinder when viewed from the front. The cylinder, ejector rod and barrel are finished in nickel, hammer and trigger were casehardened and the frame was silver. The top of the barrel is marked "COLTS HOUSE PISTOL/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." flanked by Maltese crosses and the top strap is marked "PAT. SEP.19, 1871." The matching serial number appears on the butt and bottom of the barrel. The sides of the barrel and frame are decorated with floral scroll engraving, the cylinder with scallop, zigzag and geometric designs, and the top strap with a wavy zigzag and leaf design. There is a star burst on each side of the upper frame ahead of the cylinder and on the top of the back strap. The frame has a dot border, with a wavy double line and dot design under the cylinder. Simple line, dot design on the back strap and geometric design on the trigger housing sides. (this embellishment is at least New York, if not factory engraving. Either way, it is highly desirable!) Integral pinched blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with smooth ivory birds head grips.
BBL: 3 inch round

Gauge: 41 RF
Finish: nickel/silver
Grips: ivory
Serial Number: 6596
Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 75% original nickel finish with some minor pitting on the cylinder. The frame has a very pleasant untouched aged patina with traces of the original silver plating on the sides of the top strap and in the protected area of the loading gate. The grips are good with a small repair on each panel, several minor to moderate age cracks, and areas of the grain aging to a very pleasant caramel patina. The engraving and markings are clear and crisp. The action is excellent.
