This is an example of a rare Egyptian contract Sharps Model 1853 carbine. These carbines were chambered in 26 bore (577 caliber) and the contract called for only 200 carbines. The top of the barrel between the barrel band and rear sight is marked with the three line address, the lock is marked with the Sharps patent date and the upper tang is marked with the Sharps patent date and the serial number. The matching serial number is also marked on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm and on the inside of the forearm. Blade front sight and folding leaf rear sight. There are provisions for a saddle ring bar, brass barrel band, patch box and buttplate, and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock.

Condition: Fair. The metal surfaces have a gray patina with some scattered minor pitting. There are a few dings and dents on the breech end of the barrel. The wood has been sanded and refinished, and remains very good with a few minor dings and handling marks. The brass has an aged patina. Markings are mostly readable. The action is fine.
